Suarez is staying and Liverpool will spend, not sell, says Tom Werner

Liverpool Chairman Tom Werner has claimed that the club will not be selling players before they can buy in the January transfer window and has claimed Luis Suarez will not be leaving the club.

The American has insisted that Brendan Rodgers will have funds available in January to lift morale at the club following a disastrous transfer deadline day in the summer.

“Our intention is to strengthen but actions will speak louder than words. That is certainly our intention though,” said Werner.

“We know that January is a challenging time and I don’t want to say we’ve got X or Y player, but hopefully the fans will be pleased with what we do accomplish.”

To further boost the fans’ aspirations, Werner stated categorically that Liverpool’s star player, Luis Suarez, will not be leaving the club in the near future.

“He’s a beautiful player to watch and as a Liverpool fan I hope I’m watching him for many years to come. We wouldn’t even consider selling him, absolutely not,” Werner insisted.

It’s another good sign from the owners that they will not let Suarez leave after quickly quashing the rumours linking him with a move to Manchester City last week.

He added, “We made a long term contract with him in the summer and we are going to see a lot of his play at Liverpool.”

Liverpool’s American owners speak very well but it’s their actions that have come under fire from a large section of the fans. Werner will need to stick to his words in January and allow Rodgers the chance to strengthen his depleted squad.
